Dr David Toomey, B.Vet.Med.(London), M.A.C.V.Sc. (Small Animal Surgery)
David qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 1976. He started his veterinary career working in a small animal and equine practice in the East End of London. This was an extremely busy practice that also took surgical referral cases from neighbouring veterinary practices. After 3 years he left to work in mixed practice in Wales. After a year back in Wales he returned to the East End of London to run the practice where he had first started while the owner took a years sabbatical in Jamaica. On the owners return he took a position in a busy small animal practice in Winnipeg which also ran a 24 hour emergency clinic. In 1986 he decided to leave the cold winters of central Canada and came to New Zealand to work in a very busy surgical practice in Papatoetoe. In 1995 he moved to the Abbotts Way Veterinary Clinic and became a partner in 1998. He has owned many Bernese Mountain Dogs, a Bull Mastiff and several cats. Dr Rachael Williams BVSc (Massey University)
Rachael graduated from Massey University in 1998. She started her career as an equine veterinarian in Christchurch before making the switch to companion animals. She worked at Straven Road a medical and surgical referral practice as an emergency veterinarian before leaving for the UK on her OE. She spent four years working at a busy small animal practice in Winchmore Hill, North East London and travelling around Europe. She returned to New Zealand to join Abbotts Way in early 2004 and became a partner in April 2005. Her particular interests are in Small Animal Internal Medicine and Ultrasound and she has completed post graduate studies in both of these subjects through Sydney University. In 2008 she These days she enjoys spending time with her family - Mark, Tessa and Ben, Lucky the Cat and Stan the Labrador and R n R at Taupo Bay. Dr Kathrin Brinker Dr MedVet PhD
Kathrin originates from Bavaria in the Southern part of Germany and graduated from Hannover Veterinary University, Germany in 1998. During her studies she absorbed several practical trainings in different places in Europe, the States and New Zealand.After her graduation she completed her PhD , dealing with analysis of congenital sensorineural deafness in Dalmatians (2000); she also published different papers on that subject. During that time she also worked in an Equine and Small Animal Hospital. After that she began specialising in companion animal medicine and surgery to acquire the German professional title ‘Small Animal Specialist’ in 2006.During this postgraduate training programme she worked in different referral hospitals and referral practices along with specialists and diplomates in various areas. Her experience includes a broad field of both surgery and medicine, including ophthalmology, cardiology and further diagnostics, e.g. cytology or ultrasound diagnostics.She came over to New Zealand with her family in late 2010, but she fell in love at first sight with New Zealand when she worked in a mixed practice in Northland in 1997. Since then she has been back several times, became engaged here and still enjoys all that New Zealand has to offer!In her spare time she enjoys being busy with her little family, Sascha, Hannah and Helena. All love any kind of outdoor activity like tramping, climbing or riding.
