Weight Management

Unfortunately the number of overweight pets has increased dramatically in recent times. Latest statistics show that a startling 40% of dogs and 33% of cats are overweight.

An overweight pet is far more likely to suffer from health problems many of which can be serious. These may include:

  • Heart Disease
  • Diabetes
  • Joint problems
  • Respiratory disorders
  • Increased anaesthetic and surgical risk
  • High blood pressure
  • Constipation
  • Fatty liver

Please contact the clinic if you would like some advice on weight management for your pet. A consultation with the vet is usually recommended first to rule out certain health problems which may cause weight gain.

Once the all clear is given we can formulate a weight loss programme for your pet using one of the prescription weight loss diets.

“We have been clients of Abbotts Way for many years and cannot praise them highly enough. On one occasion we had a very sick dog who would surely have died if it had not been for the love , care and attention she received, not only from the vets but the nurses too. At Abbotts Way they know we treat our dogs as part of our family and so do they.”
